Abstract
For skin disease therapy, microneedles are advantageous over other approaches due to their ability to directly penetrate across the stratum corneum and accomplish efficient in situ delivery. Through rational design of microneedle materials, fabrication techniques, and drug loading tactics, on-demand release of therapeutic agents can be customized to adapt to specific disease features. This review explores the design principles and unique benefits of microneedles in skin disease treatments, delves into various fabrication methods and microneedle formulations, and provides a comprehensive overview of microneedle design strategies integrated with emerging therapies for dermatological conditions. Finally, it discusses how the adaptable design of microneedles can be aligned with specific dermatological conditions and therapeutic agents.
