Abstract

In this article, an attempt is made to improve its nighttime productivity by utilising locally available materials like bricks, sand, and concrete pieces with varying the weight proportion. The linear regression equation has been obtained for the experimental consequences of concave type stepped solar still. The measurable examination has been accomplished for different materials by the usage of Minitab 19 statistical software. Hourly distillate output was considered a response while the intensity of solar radiations and temperature at various locations as predictors. Results of the experimentation delineate concrete pieces with 12 kg of extents, provide higher profitability in night hours (435 ml), and give daily distillate output of 4062 mL/day. However, the efficiency achieved by brick, sand, and concrete pieces is 19.33, 21.81, and 25.30%, respectively. The payback period of the proposed still with 12 kg of concrete pieces is 111 days, which is significant.
