Abstract

The construction of highly efficient metal foam-based monolithic catalysts is essential for promoting the exploration of photothermal catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in practical application. Herein, Pt nanoparticles and NiO nanosheets directly grown on Ni foam via the substitution and acid etching-assisted method are prepared and applied in photothermal degradation of toluene. The HCl etching can tune the concentration of oxygen vacancies of the monolithic catalyst and motivate the synergetic effect of Pt nanoparticles and NiO nanosheets. Meanwhile, the obtained monolithic catalysts have strong light absorption capacity and highly efficient conversion of light-to-heat ability. Benefiting from these, the Pt/NF-A2 sample shows the good performance toward photothermal degradation of toluene. These findings may provide insights into the design of efficient metal foam-based monolithic industrial catalysts for photothermal degradation of VOCs.
