Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted visible light communication (VLC) constitutes a promising approach for providing illumination and communication simultaneously. In this paper, we consider the problem of joint UAV deployment, cell association, and power allocation, to meet the illumination and data rate demands of a set of users in a geographical area. Towards this goal, we develop <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{SOUVLC}$</tex-math></inline-formula> , a multi-objective <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{s}$</tex-math></inline-formula> equentially <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{o}$</tex-math></inline-formula> ptimized <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{U}$</tex-math></inline-formula> AV-assisted <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{VLC}$</tex-math></inline-formula> framework that aims at minimizing the required number of UAVs <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">first</i> and minimizing the total transmitted power <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">second</i> . <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{SOUVLC}$</tex-math></inline-formula> mitigates inter-cell interference and accounts for illumination interference. We derive a mixed-integer linear formulation of <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mathsf{SOUVLC}$</tex-math></inline-formula> , numerically evaluate it under different user demands and distributions, and demonstrate its superiority over several benchmarks.
