Abstract
Gastroretentive drug delivery systems (GRDDs) are designed to prolong the residence time of a drugin the stomach. This can be beneficial for drugs that are destroyed by stomach acid orthat need to bedelivered in a sustained-release manner.GRDDsare a promising new technology for improving thedelivery of drugs to the gastrointestinal tract. They have the potential to improve the efficacy andsafety of drugs, and to reduce the number of side effects.The primary goal of GRDDsis to improvethe bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy of orally administered drugs.GRDDsare available inGRDDscan take various forms, including tablets, capsules, or multiparticulate systems. They areformulated using various strategies to achieve gastroretention, such as floating systems,mucoadhesive systemsor expandable systems& swelling.The primary focuses of this review paperare to first go through the fundamental idea of GRDDs, the most recent approach to GRDDs, and thesituation of GRDDsdelivery today.In this review,talk about the stomach's physiological conditionand the many components that influence GRDDS. Recently used gastrointestinal technologies suchas expandable,bio/mucoadhesive, low-and high-density-systems, and adhesive have also been brieflystudied, along with their benefits and drawbacks.
