Abstract

Copper-promoted inert C(sp3)–H functionalization has gradually been developed as a nascent tool to establish categories of bonds, including C(sp3)–C, C(sp3)–N, C(sp3)–O/S, and C(sp3)–X bonds. However, there have been no reviews summarizing the latest advances in this domain. Herein, we review the main progress of copper-promoted inert C(sp3)–H functionalization, covering the literature up to 2020 and classifying the works by the types of bonds formed. Reaction characteristics and proposed mechanisms of nearly all examples are presented and, in some cases, are comprehensively compared with those of literature precedents. In addition, an overview of the current development of this field is summarized and the future of this domain is discussed.
