Abstract

During the past decade, the search for introducing coinage metals into lacunary polyoxometalates (POMs) to construct coinage metal-substituted polyoxometalates (CM-POMs) has attracted sustained interest, because such materials not only combine the unique structural features of both POMs and coinage metals but also exhibit promising applications in photocatalysis, luminescence, magnetic materials and so on. In this review, the structural characteristics, synthesis methods and applications of CM-POMs have been summarized from three main categories according to their metal core element type: copper-substituted POMs, sliver-substituted POMs, and gold-substituted POMs. Furthermore, the present challenges with regard to the design and properties investigation of CM-POMs are also discussed.
