Abstract

Efficient adsorption and separation of organic dyes in the wastewater is highly desirable for environmental protection. A facile synthesis of magnetic bio-based chitosan (CS) microspheres grafted with sodium polystyrene sulfonate (SPSS) via electron beam radiation is described. The obtained microspheres were characterized by FTIR, SEM, TG and VSM, which demonstrated millimetric magnetic CS-g-SPSS microspheres were obtained with enhanced thermal stability. Experimental parameters such as absorbed dosage, mass ratio, initial pH, initial concentration and contact time for the adsorption were thoroughly investigated. To investigate the adsorption rate and recyclability, evaluation of adsorption kinetic model and adsorption/desorption experiment were conducted.
