Abstract

The active metasurface absorbers that can regulate the microwave absorption frequencies provide a possibility to construct an intelligent stealth system, which has attracted a great deal of attention. Despite significant progress, achieving dual-band dynamic absorption with a wide tuning range when the profile is extremely thin is still a challenging task. Here, we propose a dual-band tunable ultra-thin metasurface absorber with polarization- and angle-insensitivity. By regulating the bias voltage applied to the varactor diodes, two absorption bands can be continuously and independently tuned in a wide range. Moreover, the dual-band metasurface absorber is polarization-insensitive within??30 incidence due to the symmetrical structures and maintains more than 99% absorption even on the dielectric substrate with 0.0126 ? L thickness ( ? L is the free-space wavelength at the lowest operating frequency). The experimental results agree well with the simulations, which verify the feasibility of the proposed paradigm. Moreover, the proposed active metasurface absorber has great potential in fields such as military stealth and radar systems.
