Abstract

Abstract With the development of renewable energy, electrocatalysis technology driven by clean electric energy has shown great potential in the field of energy conversion. In the electrocatalytic reaction process, the catalyst plays a crucial role. Therefore, the development of highly efficient catalysts with excellent performance is particularly critical and urgent for promoting the further development of electrocatalysis technology, realizing the efficient use of renewable energy, and building a sustainable energy system. In recent years, 2D materials have been widely applied in the field of electrochemistry. Thereinto, the emerging 2D transition metal borides (MBenes) possess unique structures, high electrical conductivity, and excellent catalytic activity, which shows great application potential in electrocatalytic reactions. This review recapitulates the structure, properties, and synthesis strategies of MBenes. Then, the research progress of MBene‐based materials for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO 2 RR), nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR), and nitrogen oxide reduction reaction (NO x RR) are summarized. Furthermore, the challenges and future development of MBenes in the field of electrocatalysis are discussed. This review is intended to provide meaningful insights into the rational design and future development of MBene‐based catalysts for electrocatalytic reactions.
