Abstract

Current changes of information creation, sensing, sharing, and consumption in our community, business, and industry have stimulated data traffic surge. Next generation communication networks are evolving with the goal of providing high data rate, stringent latency, and ubiquitous services. Optical wireless communication (OWC) systems are being actively developed with combined benefits from advanced optical and wireless technologies. With advantages, such as ultrahigh bandwidth, long distance, and strong data privacy, optical wireless systems will become an essential building block of the future communication network infrastructure. OWC will play an important role in network operations for 6G, satellite communications, wireless LANs (WLAN), and beyond.
