Generational Wounds
Ana María Gómez
Abstract
Abstract Intergenerational trauma has a complex etiology that has not been elucidated because the underlying mechanisms through which generational wounds are transmitted are not yet fully understood. While considering the multiple forms of transmission (e.g., epigenetics, stress in utero), in this chapter the focus will be on trauma occurring post-birth; interpersonally within important, primary attachment bonds; and through the relational and emotional landscape surrounding and influencing the young, developing mind. The chapter will explore the role of EMDR therapy in promoting change and integration in relational and affective dynamics, and inner structures that perseverate attachment wounds across generations.
