Abstract

The Global Forest Goals Report 2026 presents the second global assessment of progress in implementing the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017–2030 and its Global Forest Goals. As the long‑term framework guiding sustainable forest management worldwide, the Strategic Plan underpins global efforts to halt deforestation and forest degradation, promote sustainable forest management, and strengthen the contribution of forests to sustainable development. Building on the baseline established by the first Global Forest Goals Report released in 2021, the 2026 edition offers an updated and more comprehensive picture of progress since then. It draws on voluntary national reports submitted by members of the United Nations Forum on Forests, the FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment, and other relevant data sources. The report provides policy‑relevant analysis, highlights success stories from Member States and organizations, and offers recommendations to advance integrated land‑use planning, improve cross‑sectoral coordination, and scale up financing for sustainable forest management.
