DOA Method with Reduced Bias and Side Lobe Suppression

Abstract

The world of wireless communication employs various methodologies to efficiently utilize the limited resource RF spectrum. Smart antenna is one such technology employed in the field wireless mobile communication to increase the channel capacity by making use of spatial division multiple access along with high performance digital signal processing algorithms. Direction of Arrival (DOA) and Beamforming algorithms form the independent blocks of the DSP part of the smart antenna. This paper introduces a method for direction of arrival w.r.t time taken for user detection, bias and side lobe radiation factor. Comparing the proposed algorithm with existing algorithms, it can be seen that the proposed method has lowest time taken for user detection, least bias and lowest side lobe radiation factor. The results are simulated using MATLAB.
