Abstract

Ultra-high-performance fiber concretes (UHPFC) is a new generation building material, exhibiting excellent durability and outstanding mechanical properties compared with ordinary concrete and high performance concrete. This study reviews the literatures that examine the mechanical properties, optimum mixing ratios and the microstructure analysis of UHPFC. The reviewed papers tried to produce more practical, cost-effective and green UHPFC by using coarse aggregate. Also, several types of steel fibers were used. In addition, other types of fibers were incorporated such as glass fiber, polyethylene, polyamide. Thermal curing at the temperature of 90 °C gave the maximum mechanical characteristics of UHPFC. It has been determined that the geometry of the fiber and the properties of the fiber are the two most critical aspects that influence the performance of the steel fiber concretes. Incorporating coarse aggregates in the UHPFC mixture leaves a minor drop in the mechanical properties This review is a good entry gate into the world of UHPFC.
