Abstract

July 11 marks UN World Population Day, which highlights the importance of global population issues. One such issue is population age and the pace of which it is increasing. WHO reported that, in 2020, the overall number of people older than 60 years, worldwide, outnumbered children younger than 5 years, although the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced mortality rates of older adults around the globe disproportionally. The overall increase is, in part, due to advances in medicine resulting in people living longer.
