Development of a numerical simulation method for gear skiving

Abstract
In gear skiving, parameters such as target gear data, process parameters and tool specifications are conditional to each other. The quantification of these dependencies is not only important for research purposes, but also for successful process design and process optimization. One important tool to quantify the dependencies of the process is a simulation. Trials have shown that a geometrical penetration calculation is a suitable solution and the results are highly accurate. In this paper, a numerical penetration calculation for gear skiving and an analytical approach to calculate the chip thickness as well the comparison between them are presented.
