Abstract

This current study examines the impact of access to clean fuels and technologies and electricity access on carbon emissions in Africa using the Driscoll and Kraay’s Panel Corrected Standard Error approach. The results reveal that access to clean fuels and technologies deteriorates the environment. In addition, access to electricity in urban and rural areas positively causes environmental degradation. Furthermore, economic growth causes environmental degradation, and the pollution haven hypothesis is confirmed. However, renewable energy consumption improves environmental quality. The findings support the development of renewable electrification to encourage clean electricity, fuels, and technologies.
