Abstract

The present research work addresses the importance and preparation of polyurethane-sodium alginate (PU-NaAL) composite and silver nanoparticles fabricated PU-NaAL (Ag@PU-NaAL) nanocomposites. Polyurethane was fabricated with sodium alginate to enhance its mechanical properties as well as maintained biocompatibility of the polymer. These polymers based composites were used as micro-reactors for the loading of AgNPs. SPR band appeared at 410 nm in UV–visible (UV-visible) spectra confirmed the successful fabrication of NPs. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) illustrated the involvement of carbonyl group in the stabilization of mNPs. Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) gives the interpretation of thermal behavior of nanocomposite polymer . It explained that AgNPs were remained stabilized even at high temperature (600 °C) at which major part of polymer campsite was degraded. This analysis also showed that 9.378% AgNPs contents were loaded in polymer chains to prepare nanocomposite. Catalytic activity of Ag@PU-NaAL nanocomposite polymers was investigated by reducing brilliant blue (BB) dye while using NaBH 4 as reductant. Dye was degraded catalytically in just 17 min while using NaBH 4 as reducing agent. It was also concluded that rate of reduction of BB was also changed by changing the amount of BB dye, NaBH 4 concentration and catalyst dose in the reaction mixture. Reported catalyst was also found efficient for the treatment of mixture of toxic dyes and dyes polluted textile industry wastewater.
