Abstract
Advances in the field of Information and Communication Technology and the importance of securing information make identifying and authenticating individuals a corner stone in the verification process of identity or in granting access control to secured platforms, systems, and digital applications. Various biometric systems used to measure the unique biological and physiological characteristics of individuals to establish their identity. This paper reviews and scrutinizes the current biometrics systems used in the field of security in terms of usability, techniques, accuracy, advantages, and disadvantages. However, due to the diverse nature of biometric applications, no single biometric trait is likely to be optimal and satisfy the requirements of all applications.
