Abstract

Due to the increasing number of health issues related to obesity and overeating, people are more aware of their dietary habits to prevent conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease that are linked to obesity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.8 million people die every year due to being overweight or obese. A healthy diet plan typically involves controlling calorie intake. Therefore, a project has been proposed to use deep learning techniques to calculate the calories in food items by analyzing images taken by users. This approach involves a layer-based method, which includes image capture, food item classification and calorie prediction.
