Guideline development
Jesse Shaw
Abstract
Clinical Practice Guidelines are systematically developed and evidence-based statements. They are the application of evidence into implementable recommendations. The development process starts with a review of medical evidence by a multidisciplinary group, followed by the utilization of a tool that can evaluate the quality and strength of evidence. Finally, the evidence is transformed into recommendations which are released for external review and updated as new information is developed. Within sports there are multiple structural barriers to both evidence review and implementation of guidelines, which should be addressed moving forward.
