Feedback-Based Setpoint Mechanism in Model Predictive Load Frequency Control

Abstract

This letter proposes a feedback-based setpoint mechanism in model predictive control (MPC) to improve frequency dynamics of load frequency control. Unlike standard tracking MPC with fixed setpoints, an extra closed-loop is introduced in the MPC strategy to self-adjust the setpoints to enhance frequency restoration performances. Moreover, the proposed strategy does not incur additional online computational complexity compared to the standard MPC, which guarantees its practicability. Both recursive feasibility and convergence analysis are discussed in this letter. Simulation results indicate the advantages of the proposed strategy.
