Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance represents a serious threat to public health. Antibacterial agent combinations provide a potential approach to combating this problem, and synergistic agent combinations-in which each agent enhances the antimicrobial activity of the other-are particularly valuable in this regard. Ceftobiprole is a late-generation β-lactam antibiotic developed for MRSA infections. Resistance has emerged to ceftobiprole, jeopardizing this agent's effectiveness. To identify synergistic agent combinations with ceftobiprole, an FDA-approved drug library was screened for potential synergistic combinations with ceftobiprole. This screening and follow-up studies identified numerous β-lactams with ceftobiprole synergy.
