Abstract

The acquisition of wireless power transfer technology resolves the inherent burdens of high cost, range anxiety, and long charging time in electric vehicles (EVs). This chapter deals with the operation, fundamentals, industrial standards, and power conversion architectures for inductive power transfer (IPT)-based battery charging for EV applications. The state-of-the-art power electronic converter topologies utilized in IPT-based charging systems are reviewed in this chapter. The past and present developments of control schemes for dual-stage and single-stage power conversion systems are also briefly discussed. The performance comparison of widely adopted power conversion systems is analyzed through case studies. Finally, current trends and future opportunities of power conversion systems for IPT-based EV charging are summarized in this chapter.
