Abstract
This paper introduces topological defect networks as a unified framework for describing various types of gapped fracton orders. By viewing fracton phases as a network of topological defects embedded into a topological quantum field theory, the authors show how the mobility constraints characteristic of fracton phases directly follow from topological defect physics.
