Analytical bending stiffness model of composite shaft with breathing fatigue crack

Abstract

In this paper, an improved stiffness model of the breathing crack of the composite shaft tube was established based on the Layer-wise theory, which considered the influence of orientation angle and stacking sequence of the cracked layers. Then, the model was compared with the horizontal neutral axis model, Mayes' model and analytical model. The results showed that the improved model can more effectively reflect the influence of the laminate parameters on the stiffness. Based on the model, the bending stiffness characteristics of the cracked composite shaft were studied, and the effects of laminate parameters on the stiffness were obtained.
