Perspectives for the use of deep eutectic solvents in the preparation of electrochemical sensors and biosensors
Christopher M. A. Brett
Abstract
This review concerns deep eutectic solvents (DES) and how they can be exploited in the preparation of new and improved electrochemical sensing platforms. Some relevant properties of DES are described, with a brief description of the range of applications and recent advances concerning coatings and materials prepared in DES. Their use in the preparation of modified-electrode electrochemical sensors and biosensors in recent publications is then addressed, particularly regarding electroactive redox polymer-modified electrodes, together with nanomaterials, including employing ternary DES to increase sensitivity. Future perspectives are indicated.
