Cost and Efficiency Requirements for Successful Electricity Storage in a Highly Renewable European Energy System

Abstract
Using a model of a highly renewable energy system, this study explores the requirements for new grid-scale energy storage technologies to compete with existing pumped-hydro and lithium-ion battery storage, considering the energy capacity costs, power capacity costs, and energy conversion efficiencies of several storage configurations.
