Abstract

As an unparalleled bonding technology, adhesives have been widely used in the fields of tissue repair, wearable devices, and cold-supply chain. In Nature, many organisms have evolved to accommodate their complex habitats such as humid or underwater environments and adhere on diverse surfaces. Spider silk, as a typical natural adhesive, provides continuous inspiration to design artificial adhesive materials toward numerous adhesion applications. In this Review, we first overview the intrinsic adhesive property of spider silks by introducing the research milestones, the adhesive compositions and influence factors. Then, we summarize the current advances of the spider-silk-inspired adhesive materials from two perspectives: the preparation methods and the potential applications. This Review will shed light on the future study of the spider silks and the development of the next-generation adhesive materials.
