Abstract
Since Modbus TCP is capable of the stable transmission while 5G has the advantage of the low latency, they can be applied in different industrial situations, forming wired/wireless heterogeneous networks. However, Modbus TCP and 5G have different protocol standards, so that they cannot exchange information directly. To solve this problem, this paper is to propose a protocol conversion mechanism and system design method between Modbus TCP and 5G. First, the communication rate and protocol format of Modbus TCP and 5G are analyzed, and their protocol conversion mapping method is presented. Second, the hardware and software architecture of protocol conversion gateway and Modbus TCP station are designed. Finally, the experiments of the connectivity and protocol conversion performance of the gateway are performed on the constructed physical platform, and the experimental results confirm the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method and designed gateway.
