Abstract

The global drug delivery implant market is growing at an unprecedented rate owing to the implant’s advantages over traditional drug delivery methods. While the scientific literature extensively covers the medical aspects of these devices, insufficient attention has been paid to their manufacture. In the present work, the issues surrounding their manufacture will be explored on the example of typical subcutaneous implant topologies. The various drug delivery implant products currently in use will be explored first along with a review of the materials used and of their manufacturing properties. An account of the manufacturing processes used for the implant’s components and their assembly follows.
