Abstract
We describe how N -hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) promotes hydrogen atom transfer from aldehydes under electrochemical conditions. NHPI plays a multifunctional role, enabling the consideration of aldehydes or alcohols as sp 3 -carbon centered radicals.
