Abstract

An arrow-shaped unit cell formed polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) is further studied with enhanced polarization rotation (PR) bandwidth under seven resonances. The PCM covers 5.66 GHz∼36.74 GHz (146.6%) PR bandwidth with a polarization conversion ratio (PCR) exceeding 90%. Comprehensive analysis of its ultrawideband characteristics, facilitated by multiple electric and magnetic resonances, is conducted through field distributions and equivalent circuits. A prototype of the PCM arranged in a chessboard configuration is simulated, fabricated, and measured to validate the analytical findings. The PCM prototype realizes a 10-dB monostatic radar cross section (RCS) across the frequency range of 5.5 ∼ 37 GHz (148%) under both x- and y-polarized normal incident waves. The ultrathin wideband PCM is promising for applications in polarization converters and conformal RCS reduction.
