Abstract

Dust suppressants play a crucial role in mitigating dust pollution during coal storage and transportation, which is essential for ensuring process safety and environmental protection in coal-related enterprises. Sodium alginate , guar gum, and polyvinyl alcohol were selected as primary materials. By utilizing the free radical excitation and crosslinking effects of potassium persulfate and borax , new macromolecular products were synthesized. Subsequently, a composite dust suppressant with wetting and bonding properties was developed by incorporating surfactants and water-retaining agents. Single-factor experiments revealed that the optimal synthesis conditions were 0.2 g of potassium persulfate, 0.08 g of borax , and 0.3 g of guar gum. FTIR analysis confirmed the formation of new B-O-C chemical bonds. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the maximum decomposition rate of the SGP dust suppressant occurred at 253 ℃. Wind erosion tests demonstrated that the wind erosion rate could exceed 94 % at a wind speed of 13 m/s. Compared to commercially available dust suppressants, the SGP dust suppressant exhibited superior water retention and rain resistance. After rainfall, it maintained over 80 % wind erosion resistance, effectively preventing the dispersion of pulverized coal.
