Abstract
Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) were synthesized onto the modified cotton fabrics with in situ method, in order to fabricate multifunctional fabrics with excellent antibacterial and anti-ultraviolet(UV) properties. Carboxymethyl chitosan(CMCS) was attached on the surface of cotton to enhance the diffusion of silver ions and the loading efficiency of nanoparticles. The obtained samples were then examined by ATR-FTIR, SEM, EDS and ICP-OES, which exhibit outstanding antibacterial behavior and laundering durability against two common pathogenic bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, even after being washed 20 cycles. In addition, the loaded cotton fabrics expressed remarkable UV-protection capability compared to the untreated fabrics.
