Abstract
Today the role of electricity is very important because it must meet the need for continuous power supply for all manufacturing industries and human social life. Moreover, the current production of electric power has paid special attention to the environment. While hydropower plants are not operating at their full capacity, thermal power plants cause environmental pollution and cause the greenhouse effect. Therefore, a top issue is that construction development must ensure environmental sanitation. Indeed, it is necessary to find alternative sources of renewable energy. Renewable energy is the clean and endless source of energy that nature offers to humans. Renewable energy sources include solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, ocean wave energy, geothermal energy, the most popular sources are solar and wind energy. However, wind and solar power sources are always subject to fluctuations due to weather and environmental conditions, so when they participate in local power grids (micro-grid) easily destabilizing the grid, sometimes causing grid errors, grid collapse. This paper presents the structure of Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) and proposes a plan to use them in micro-grid systems as an energy “regulation” element. The results of the analysis show the role of FESS and the principles that govern its operation in the micro-grid, as well as the applications of FESS in the fields of science and technology.
