Smart city initiatives in Malaysia and Southeast Asia

Abstract

Malaysia has been actively promoting and implementing various initiatives, programs, and efforts to develop smart cities across the country. Various collaborative efforts involving government agencies, local authorities, private sector entities, and academia are contributing to smart city development in Malaysia. Partnerships and collaborations aim to share expertise, resources, and best practices, fostering innovation and effective implementation of smart city projects. The Malaysian government has introduced policies and regulations to support smart city development. These include guidelines on data privacy and security, standards for interoperability and connectivity, and incentives for technology adoption and investment in smart city projects. Academic institutions, research organizations, and industry players in Malaysia are actively engaged in research and development activities related to smart cities. These efforts focus on areas such as IoT, data analytics, sustainable technologies, and citizen engagement, aiming to drive innovation and provide evidence-based solutions for smart city development. These initiatives, programs, and collaborative efforts reflect Malaysia's commitment to embracing technology, sustainability, and innovation in its journey toward developing smart cities. The government continues to promote and support the implementation of smart city projects across the country.
