Abstract

Detecting nonline-of-sight (NLOS) targets is a crucial concern in both military and civilian applications. Currently, NLOS detection techniques generally focus on the range relationship of multipath, which limits its further applications in multitarget environments. To deal with it, this article raises a novel NLOS target localization method inspired by the distribution characteristics of multipath in different domains. Specifically, first, the multipath echo model for the L-shaped scenario via ultrawideband (UWB) multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) radar is established. Then, a multipath recognition strategy based on range-Doppler (RD) topology is proposed to match the time of arrivals (TOAs) with different types of multipaths and targets. According to the recognition results, the angle and range information of targets are used to implement target localization. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is verified via electromagnetic (EM) simulations and experiments.
