Abstract
Contemporary plant breeding and gene mapping technologies offer complementary procedures with great potentials for the genetic improvement of yield, biotic and abiotic stresses, and end-user quality traits. There is a need to have a comprehensive understanding of the promising context for these technologies for inclusive improvement; hence, this chapter offers an account of different plant breeding and gene mapping procedures that allow swift developments in fundamental knowledge associated with plant development and genetics. The chapter also considers the prospects of molecular technologies by recommending how these technologies should be deployed to enhance agricultural productivity, food safety and security, and sustainability.
