Abstract

A long-driving range of the electric vehicle (EV) is always a primary requirement. To achieve this, a high-efficiency traction motor is designed. The other way to achieve a long-driving range is to connect a higher number of batteries in parallel. However, a large number of batteries connected in parallel will give rise to circulating current within the battery circuit. To overcome this problem, a new distributed inverter-fed induction motor (IM) drive is proposed. In the proposed topology, open-end winding IM (OEWIM) is used, and each phase of OEWIM is fed by a single-phase H-bridge inverter individually. In this way, it reduces the parallel combination of batteries. Space vector modulation (SVM) is developed for inverter switching and analyzed for common-mode voltage (CMV) and zero-sequence voltage (ZSV). The proposed topology is validated through simulation and experimental results.
