Abstract

Fusarium wilt of banana, also known as Panama disease, severely affects Cavendish monoculture production. Once introduced into a plantation, the causal pathogen cannot be eradicated and must be managed by planting disease-tolerant or disease-resistant cultivars and implementing an integrated management program. If the disease is allowed to spread, it may threaten the sustainability and profitability of the commercial banana industry. At present, the most effective control strategy for Fusarium wilt of banana is the use of resistant plants.
