Abstract

The strategy of import substitution adopted for airplane-engine manufacture in Russia has already shown benefits. In comparison with other branches of industry, the production of aircraft engines requires a special approach, because of its high technological content. The state of gas-turbine production for power generation and gas pumping is analyzed. Drawing on experience gained during the Soviet era, the production of such gas turbines has been revived, meeting the main domestic demand. Nevertheless, in other sectors, Russian producers still struggle to complete with world leaders such as General Electric and Siemens. The development of new aviation gas-turbine engines will provide impetus for the development of ground-based turbines and expand Russia’s market penetration.
