Abstract

Optimized multilevel inverter (MLI) design for renewable energy, electric drives, and high-frequency ac microgrid applications has been the prime focus among power engineers. Switched-capacitor (SC) based MLIs with series-parallel charging technique are frequently used in this regard. A new nine-level nine switch SC MLI (N2MLI) comprising of single dc source is proposed in this work. Switches and capacitors are smartly arranged to avoid the use of external balancing circuit as well as to provide backflow path during highly inductive loading. Comparison of state-of-art MLIs demonstrates the superiority of proposed MLI. Moreover, simulation findings of the proposed N2MLI are justified experimentally under various dynamic test cases.
