Abstract

The corrosion product scale formed on the natural gas pipelines can significantly affect the hydrogen permeation and compatibility after blending hydrogen. However, the effects of the corrosion product scale on gaseous hydrogen adsorption and diffusion remains unclear. In this study, an integrated procedure for gaseous hydrogen permeation with corrosion scale is proposed. Then the hydrogen permeation kinetics of the pipeline steel covered with FeCO 3 corrosion product scales was investigated. In addition, the kinetics of hydrogen adsorption on Fe and FeCO 3 surfaces were investigated by molecular dynamics methods . The influence mechanism of FeCO 3 scales on hydrogen permeation was proposed.
