Synthesis, characterization and applications of FeCu alloys

Abstract
The FeCu alloy system is interesting especially that there exist limited practical procedures to produce tangible interdiffusion between these two basic elements. This work focuses on the high energy ball milling technique to produce the FeCu material, and in some instances, simultaneously deposit them on thin substrates for different applications. This deposition takes place within the confines of the same crucibles and that are used to produce the alloy, except with no grinding balls used. Milling time and speed are the two parameters that control the thickness and microstructure of the deposited layer. This two-step process in general allows for many practical applications that enhances the mechanical, optical and thermal properties of the target material by virtue of the mechanical modification of its surface.
