Abstract

To our knowledge, this study is the first to 1) identify the specific combinations of temperature and humidity at which an increase in cardiovascular strain (cardiovascular drift) occurs and 2) compare those environments to the critical environmental limits for the maintenance of heat balance. We additionally examined the difference in time between the onset of increased cardiovascular strain and uncompensable heat stress. We show that an increase in cardiovascular strain systematically precedes sustained heat storage in young adults.
