(Abstracted from BMJ 2020;369:m1361) Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is an established risk factor for the future development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Systematic reviews of studies that have highlighted the increased risk of developing T2DM after GDM are more than a decade old.
