Balancing Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods
Laila Mrabti, Zouhair Belamfedel Alaoui
Abstract
This chapter examines the complementarity of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, emphasizing their respective advantages for researchers. It underscores the importance of selecting appropriate methods to influence data collection, analysis, and conclusions. Qualitative methods, such as semi-structured interviews and case studies, are vital for understanding human experiences. Conversely, quantitative methods focus on statistical analysis to test hypotheses. The integration of these methods, known as mixed methods research (MMR), provides a comprehensive approach to studying phenomena. Various MMR models optimize this complementarity. Challenges and solutions like data triangulation are discussed. The chapter concludes that integrating these methods enriches research by combining contextual depth with generalizability.
