Abstract
Farm-based intervention is a service that has developed within the agricultural sector. It aims to promote mental and physical health in a variety of different client groups. Research shows many positive effects in people who have been offered farm-based interventions. However, farm animals may be stressed by negative handling by humans. Therefore, the natural behavior of farm animals needs to be considered and housing and management adapted to meet their needs. Cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry are the most common species in farm-based interventions. The importance of considering the health and welfare of both humans, animals and the environment, One Health – One Welfare and ethical considerations are highlighted.
